Object description :

"Flemish Or French School Of The Eighteenth Century "cupid Making The Iron Of His Arrow Blush""
Flemish or French School of the 18th century after a model from the entourage of François Duquesnoy (1597-1643) "Cupid making the iron of his arrow blush" Bronze with brown patina, and trace of shaded brown red Base in carved wood and gilded with gold leaf Period: 1770-1790 Our bronze is distinguished by a very great technical mastery of its author, both in terms of casting and patina conferring a soft, wise and good-natured attitude while remaining focused on its stock. Although the model of this charming cupid heating the iron of his arrow above a small hearth is not listed in the catalog raisonné of the artist, its subject and its composition are to be compared to the famous putti and other loves of the Flemish artist active in Rome in the 17th century, François Duquesnoy. The very Algardian attitude of the half-lying child has in fact been taken up many times by the famous artist in the execution of small art bronzes depicting cupids or children of passion. The treatment of the drapes and the hair, the cannon of the face are also very close, testifying to the diffusion of his style and the enthusiasm of generations of artists for this charming theme of "Francois children" in the following centuries Dimensions with base : 57 x 50cm
