The Edmé Samson et Cie company (founded in Paris in 1845) is well known for its quality copies of the famous Meissen, Sèvres, Chelsea and Derby porcelains...
One scene depicts 2 Putti studying "Les Arts" (sculpture, painting, drawing). There is a small, discreet accident to the white bust on the far left, and the flowery drape falling from the shoulders of the light-haired Putti has been reattached.
It is marked below "France" in gold, "17" "A" or "R".
The second depicts 2 Putti studying "les Sciences" (astronomy, mathematics, geography). There is probably a small accident just in front of the brown angel's right foot, and a small touch-up to his bottom. The light-haired angel has a small imperfection on her chin and at the base of the drape covering his right knee.
It is marked underneath "France" in gold, "28" "A" or "R".
We offer this pair at an attractive price that takes these minor flaws into account.
