"Shan/ava Crowned Buddha"
Crowned Buddha in Bhumisparsa Mudra, red and black lacquer, Burma (Myanmar), 19th century. Its large ear cabochons reflect the Shan or Ava style. The entire piece is covered with a Thayo technique decor. The Burmese Thayo technique is achieved by mixing lacquer with wood ash, then using the mixture to roll thin strands. These strands are then glued onto the sculpture in a decorative way and painted H 77 CM XP 25 CM XL 30 CM. Provenance: Personal collection of art dealer Claude de Marteau.
