Pair of 18th century paperolles reliquary with period carved and gilded wooden frame. Some lack of attachment. Frame size 48*57 cm and 34*42 cm at sight Paperolles are a decoration technique using narrow strips of gold paper on the edge, to form loops, circles and other shuttles, which are glued by the edge on a support to constitute a subject in three dimensions. Paperolles are made in convents for the meticulous making of small reliquary paintings. Reliquaries are intended to preserve the earthly remains of holy personages who have been sanctified.
