"Isfahan Carpet In Wool, Signed Serafian, Circa 1975"
Isfahan carpet dating from around 1975, from Iran and signed "Iran Serafian". The pile of this rug is made from high quality lambswool, known as kork wool. Some touches of silk can be found surrounding the flowers, while the foundations, warps, wefts and fringes are made of silk. The carpet is in good general condition and has a density of approximately 10,000 knots per square decimetre. The field of the carpet is ivory in color, with patterns of branches and scrolls composed of fine stems with polychrome flowered palmettes. In the center, there is a large multi-lobed floral rosette in shades of old pink, midnight blue and beige, forming a kind of starry diamond. The four corners are midnight blue, with motifs of crenellated branches in the form of serpentines surrounded by petals and flower buds. Composed of five borders, the main one of which is ruby in color and has interlacing patterns of fine crenellated branches encrusted with bulbs and multicolored flowering palmettes.
