"Nain Carpet In Wool And Silk, Iran, Shah Period"
Nain carpet from Iran in wool and silk, dating from around 1975, during the time of the Shah. It is made with a lambswool velvet, featuring flower patterns surrounded by silk, on silk foundations. Its density is about 9000 knots per square decimetre. The field of the carpet is midnight blue, with garlands and foliage of fine stems of flowering palmettes in shades of ivory, ruby and sky blue. It is adorned with a large central rosette in the shape of a diamond, surrounded by beige and pale blue flowers. It also has four spandrels that recall the central medallion. The borders of the carpet are triple, with a main border of ivory color featuring interlacing of bulbs and stylized flower buds. This rug was made around 1975, during the time of the Shah.
