"Kachan Wool Rug, Iran, Shah Period."
Kachan rug from Iran, circa 1940, during the Shah era. Its dimensions are 254 x 186 cm and its density is about 9,000 knots per square decimeter. The rug is made with a high quality silky lambswool pile, known as Kork, with inlaid silk flowers on a cotton foundation. It has great finesse and great originality, giving a poetic aspect. The rug is in very good overall condition and comes in the form of a prayer rug. It is remarkable for its curious multi-lobed mirhab in the shape of a starry diamond and a stylized crown. It is adorned with a suspended oil lamp terminating in a cabochon-shaped polychrome floral bulb, all on a Prussian blue field.
