Graduate ceramist, director of a molding and modeling workshop, he ended his career as a teacher after winning the title of "Meilleur Ouvrier de France". Self-taught painter, he is known for his seaside landscapes, hamlets and nature. His works, of great finesse, combine pointillism and neo-impressionism. His paintings describe a calm, beautiful and peaceful world. For him, water is a reflection that doubles the serenity of the landscape. His works are borrowed from a sweet nostalgia. He notably painted the landscapes of the Côte d'Azur, Vendée and Languedoc. André Bourrié was born in Montpellier on May 4, 1936. His father died in 1941 during the Second World War. His mother, meanwhile, died in 1945. Orphaned, he lived alone for some time before his uncle took him in and placed him in the orphanage of a patron of the Paris region who taught him his trade. He came to live in Paris shortly after the Second World War. He quickly learned to paint while working in construction. In his early days, his main subjects were related to his profession: construction sites and the rooftops of Paris with their cranes and scaffolding. His personality asserts itself under the influence of this geometric environment made of vertical lines. Subsequently appointed to a post of technical professor in the provinces, André Bourrié gradually moved towards more natural subjects such as rural landscapes, seaside or villages. However, the geometry of his first works remains very present with the rectangularity of the dwellings and the masts of the boats. In 1978, he obtained the gold medal for French artists and an exclusive contract with the Wally Findlay Gallery in New York which enabled him to hold numerous exhibitions in France and the United States and thus to share his personal vision and purged from the world. In 1979, his art of painting allowed him to live full time from his passion. In the early 80s, he discovered the technique of lithography for which he felt a real passion. In 1986 he became acquainted with the Vision Nouvelle editions. A close collaboration is established between the publisher and the artist. It materializes with the signing of a world exclusive contract concerning his graphic work. The first prestigious exhibition organized in Tokyo (Japan) was a great success, as were the various events that followed in the United States (New York, Chicago, Beverly Hills, Palm Beach) and in the United Kingdom (London). André Bourrié is world famous today. He died on January 6, 2017 at the age of 80.
