Hendrik Frans Schaefels, born December 2, 1827 in Antwerp and died June 9, 1904 in the same city, is a Belgian romantic painter, draftsman and engraver known for his seascapes, vedutes, genre paintings, landscapes with figures and his paintings of 'history. He works in the romantic style popular in Belgium in the mid-19th century and is highly regarded in Europe for his depictions of historic naval battles.
