SEM (Georges Goursat, known as) - ROUBILLE (Auguste) - "Sem in the wood" or "The return of the races".
Sans lieu, [1907-1908], large scrolling panorama (approximately 9 mx 33 cm) on 6 color lithographed sheets, produced by SEM in collaboration with Auguste Roubille.
Some old restorations with adhesive tapes, and some more recent restorations with Filmoplast, on the ends on the back, very good condition of the whole.
Spectacular and very beautiful panorama representing a parade of all-Paris going up the avenue du Bois (current avenue Foch) by various means of locomotion; it is in fact the return from Longchamp to Paris of the personalities who attended the Grand Prix de Paris in 1907, the winner of which was the Stallion Sans Souci II of Baron Edouard de Rothschild. In this panorama, Sem represented no less than 86 personalities, among whom we will recognize Georges Clémenceau, Aristide Briand, Leopold II of Belgium, Tristan Bernard, many personalities from the Jockey Club... And a certain Colette, very close to her husband Willy and a maharajah's elephant.
Auguste Roubille is the author of the means of locomotion.
One of the captions was originally hidden with a sticker label. This is Count Boni de Castellane.
This Panorama was offered in 2 different presentations:
- A version presenting the accordion-folded frieze forming 24 sheets in a titled cardboard box, quite rare.
- A roll version with 6 unfolded boards (about 150 x 33 cm each), intended to be mounted one after the other to form a 9 meter long frieze, much rarer. It is this version that we offer here, complete with its packaging leaflet illustrated with horseshoes, blue silk closing ribbon partially preserved.
