- Edouard DROUOT (1859-1945) for Etling in Paris - Important Orientalist sculpture in patinated and gilded bronze, model listed entitled "Le Méhariste" signed E. DROUOT and bearing the stamp of the famous ETLING house in Paris. Beautiful Orientalist composition around 1900 in finely chiseled bronze animated by an elegant partially polychrome and golden brown patina, the whole is characterized by a sense of movement and an expressive touch of great virtuosity. The subject rests on a rectangular base in black marble from Belgium. Good general condition and complete with its decorative elements. Dimensions: 61 cm long X 57 cm high X 18 cm deep. REFERENCE: “Les Orientalistes” by Stéphane Richemond, Editions de l'amateur, Paris, 2008, model reproduced on page 85. Edouard Drouot: Painter and sculptor of mythological subjects, typical scenes, animals, orientalist. He was a pupil of Emile Thomas and Mathurin Moreau. From 1889 he exhibited at the Salon and then at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900, he devoted most of his work to sculpture, realizing mythological subjects and some typical subjects drawn from his Indian or Tuareg travels. . A vast repertoire, varied themes, a sense of movement and expression made DROUOT a prominent figure in French sculpture at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Today, Drouot's work can be found in the collections of the Courtauld Institute in London and the Indiana University Museum of Art in Bloomington, among others.
