"Baroque Cherub, Face Of A Wise Child, Louis XIV Period"
Cherubim-Angelots, beings symbols of love, (mythological or divine), sculptors of the Baroque era sowed them on pediments of both gallant and religious furnitures. This is all the more so as with infant mortality of period, every adult had in their hearts a memory of a child gone too quickly. For this one we rather think of tender love.... elm wood with carnal veins, (but which splits) magnifies his skin, quality of the sculptor is impressive.
French Baroque, well sculpted, circa 1700,
Dimensions = approximately Height: 19cm, 16cm, weight: 900g
