"Jean Joseph Weerts: Portrait Of My Father, Drawing"
In the 1880s, the publication of the illustrated catalog of the SAF required artists to send a drawing of the painting they wanted to exhibit, so that an engraver could transfer this drawing to the catalog. The drawing presented is autograph executed by the painter from his painting. Weerts was a pupil of Constantin Mils in Roubaix then in Paris of Isidore Pils and Alexandre Cabanel. Debuted at the Salon of 1869, member of the SAF in 1883 and of the SNBA in 1892. In 1969 an exhibition was dedicated to him at the Hôtel de Ville in Roubaix. Signed upper left in reverse writing: A mon père, 1807-1881, JJ Weerts. Drawing reproduced in the catalog of the Salon of 1881 page 146.
