Marin-marie - Liner France - Rare Drawing

MARIN-MARIE represented here the inauguration of the majestic Paquebot FRANCE on January 11, 1962 (see article extract in last photo), with enthusiastic spectators in the foreground.
Very rare drawing by one of the greatest marine painters of the 20th century, which constitutes a superb archival document.

BIOGRAPHY: Marin-Marie, pseudonym of Marin Marie Paul Emmanuel Durand Couppel de Saint-Front, born December 10, 1901 in Fougerolles-du-Plessis (Mayenne) and died June 11, 1987 in Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët (Manche) , is a French writer, marine painter and navigator. He was the official naval painter from December 1935. Marin-Marie was introduced to the sea from an early age. A sailor during his military service in the 1920s, he discovered the Arctic sea ice and blackened sketchbooks thanks to the mastery acquired in evening classes at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. It was not until he approached his 70th birthday that this intrepid man stopped going to sea. Writer, painter, inventor, consultant for the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique, he regularly took part in the Salon de la Marine and worked in oil, gouache, drawing and watercolour. He has illustrated books and produced posters.
