"Stations Of The Cross By Charles Bisson"
Suite of engraved wood representing the Stations of the Cross in portfolio. Charles Bisson (1888-1960), the author, is a self-taught painter who devoted himself mainly to religious painting, following the reading of Léon Bloy. It was Léon Bloy who introduced him to Georges Rouault who valued his work. The exhibition of his first paintings at the Salon d'Automne of 1920 and of this Stations of the Cross engraved with a penknife created a sensation. Two other engravings are attached signed in ink, a crucifixion and a maternity.
