Nuutajärvi Oiva Toikka Amber Brwon Non Footed Resting Sieppo Bird Flycatcher 1972-78

Toikka Resting Burgundy Flycatcher
Oiva Toikka’s Sieppo (Flycatcher) birds have become iconic pieces for glass collectors all over the world. They were launched in 1972 with swelling shapes, unicolored bodies, and contrasting heads. In the first years, they were crafted at the Nuutajärvi glassworks, but then production moved to the Iittala glassworks.
The flycatcher comes in two versions: footed with wings, and non-footed without wings. It is quite small in length (about 8 cm / 3.1 in) but with a big personality. Every bird is mouth-blown and handcrafted, giving it a unique touch.
Each glass bird is handmade, there are variations such as size and colors, no two pieces are exactly the same.
Similar in design to the Standing Flycatcher, the Resting Flycatcher, or Sieppo, maintains the same smooth lines and pointed beak, only without the pedestal. With a hues of amber brwon throughout the body and a clear beak, this flycatcher adds a unique touch to any collection.
The Flycatcher, both standing and resting, were the first bird designs by Oiva Toikka that would become part of Nuutarjarvi's bird collection. It would be several more years before the collection would be known as "Birds by Toikka."
