Very Large Marble Sculpture Signed Jean-baptiste Boudard (c.1715-1773)

Jean-Baptiste BOUDARD (C.1715-1773) Magnificent sculpture entitled "Celestial Venus, after the antique", 1753 In white Carrara marble, human size, height: 187 cm It is presented on a marble column which adds height to it: 87 cm, i.e. 274 cm in total height. The column measures in width: 52 cm on each side. The work is signed JB Boudard and dated 1753 on the base of the sculpture. Perfectly mastered sculpture, beautiful proportion and high quality of execution. Collector's work. Provenance: Château d'Occitanie Sculpture completely cleaned and repolished about thirty years ago. Jean Baptiste Boudard (born in Paris in 1710, died in Sala Baganza on October 23, 1768) was a French sculptor of the 18th century, who produced a large part of his work in Italy, in the Duchy of Parma and in Rome. Jean-Baptiste was born in Paris in 1710, his father was director of the hallmarks of coins at the court of Louis XIV. He quickly demonstrated his artistic abilities and, in 1732, won the Prix de Rome for sculpture. He took a pension with the French Academy in Rome (Mancini Palace) and in 1736 he obtained the patent of sculptor and remained in Rome until 1740, studying the ancient works of the Capitoline and Vatican museums.
