Object description :

"Japan Meiji Era Skeleton Musician Playing Tsugaru Shamisen"
Interesting Japanese bronze from the Meiji era at the end of the 19th century representing a superb skeleton playing the tsugaru shamisen, traditional Japanese and folk music.
The shamisen is a lute measuring 110 to 140 cm whose square sound box is traditionally constructed of sandalwood and covered with cat or dog skin, with the exception of the shamisen from the island of Okinawa which is traditionally covered with snakeskin and is called sanshin (三線) or jabisen.
the details are superb and this beautiful skeleton seems alive as if punctuated by the music! very beautiful cast iron and old patina.
very good condition no lack. a rather rare Japanese bronze.

dimensions:
about 10 cm high.
