"Biedermeier Secretaire, Cherry, Maple, Brass, South Germany Circa 1830"
Majestic large Biedermeier secretaire from southern Germany around 1830. Cherry wood veneered on resinous and solid cherry wood. Solid columns in solid cherry wood with carved Corinthian capitals. 'Karnies' curved protruding plinth drawer and butterfly veneer. Cast brass knobs and fittings. Iron locks and keys. Maple wood interior trim with elaborate ebony (probably bog oak) inlays and pewter inlays on the drawers and base. Blackened interior frame and 2 solid blackened columns around the free mirror compartment (original glass). As well as a continuous bottom drawer in root and stepped wood veneer. Re-dated later and provided with an emblem, probably by a new owner (Schirmer 1846). (Furniture probably built earlier around 1830). Visible through darker maple wood on the top interior drawer. Restored and polished by hand with shellac. Completely restored about 25 years ago and overhauled in 2023. Dimensions: H 184 cm x W 119 cm x D 64.5 cm (open 95 cm)
