""dreams Of Love", Oil On Canvas Dated 1839, C.m.dubufe?"
Oil on canvas representing a young woman of great beauty, with a Greek profile, leaning on a balcony. The line and the quality of execution are perfect; there emerges an impression of purity inherited from the precepts of Ingres. Abandonment, contemplation, melancholy, escape and rapture in the dream. The canvas is dated 1839, in the middle of the Romantic period. The light on the back is almost unreal. The attribution to Claude Marie DUBUFE (1790-1864) is almost certain. Consul in 1809, he nevertheless intended to paint, under the watchful eye of David. He left for Italy in 1811, and began a long and brilliant career as a portraitist of the nobility and the upper middle class, specializing in female faces. He is the father of Edouard-Louis, also famous. Museums: Beauvais, Montpellier, Bordeaux, Compiègne, Dijon, Grenoble, Lisieux, Nantes, Paris, Rouen, Versailles, London. Dimensions with frame: 102 x 82. Original canvas. Good condition. Juices have been applied in places to reduce the effect of the cracks. Very nice presence.
