Royal Manufactory of Sèvres
Portrait of Louis XVIII in medallion
Biscuit in the Wedgwood style
Signed on the shoulder by the sculptor Alexandre Brachard (active until 1827)
Dimensions: H. 16; W. 14.2 (cm.)
This biscuit portrait on a textile background is framed in a gilded brass insert, itself surrounded by a fine turned blackened wood frame. The whole is probably original.
This portrait of Louis XVIII is in tondo, with the bust turned to the left. The king is depicted in uniform and wearing numerous symbols of power: the orders of Saint-Louis, the Legion of Honour and the Holy Spirit. The quality of the workmanship in the finery and hairwork amply explains the Manufacture's renown in the early 19th century.
