Chez Jean-Baptiste Besongne, in Rouen, 1699 – Very fine Rouen edition, “revised and augmented with an infinity of rare secrets” of this rare and interesting book of pharmacopoeia and alchemy secrets, certainly from the hand of the Venetian writer Girolamo Ruscelli, writing under pseudonym. The original edition dates from 1555 and bears witness to the humanist culture of the Renaissance.
Beautiful copy in contemporary full vellum binding, well preserved, small marginal loss on the title page, otherwise in good overall condition.
In-12, 713p (numbered 715) + table. Provenance: Ex-libris with the Latin motto "Via Benevolentiae Ratio", this one is described by Robert de Saint Jean to speak of the ex-libris having belonged to his father-in-law.
