Kashmir Masterpiece, 90 Cm X 162 Cm, Hand-knotted Silk On Silk, One Million Knots /m2

A masterpiece of Kashmir, this splendid prayer rug is in hand-knotted silk on silk and is 90 cm wide by 162 cm long.
In the form of a prayer, this marvel from the beginning of the first part of the 20th century is in very good condition.
The presence of two cranes at the base of the niche symbolizes "eternal love", the presence of two hares symbolizes "the believer". In the center an important tree of life springs from a highly decorated vase, interlacing, arabesques, various birds, sheaves of flowers complete the whole and the borders in a skilfully orchestrated decor which is reminiscent of the influence of the Kachan d 'Iran.
Silk velvet, superb, edges, very good, fringes, correct with wear. One can only be in awe of the work and the abundance of patterns, stylized flowers and arabesques covering this rug and its borders.
The colors are very soft, while causing striking contrasts for the reading of each motif.
The thickness of these carpets is approximately 2 mm, therefore very thin, which makes them flexible parts but whose ground resistance is stiffened by the density of the knots. (see photos of the reverse last) A tiny wear gives it a beautiful patina that amateurs will appreciate.
The region of Srinagar in Kashmir is where these wonders are produced and where they were produced, silks on silk or silks on cotton. India and especially the Kashmir region is not one of the major wool-producing countries (except for the wool of goats from the Ladak mountains, used to make the most beautiful cashmeres), hence the little use of this material, so the lack of wool carpets.
