Object description :

"Pewter Mug (pewter) After Francois Briot"

MUG in pewter, flared frustoconical shape with domed spinning top lid and caryatid handle. It is decorated in relief, for the most part, with three cartridges captioned: PATIENTIA, SOLERTIA, NON VI. (Patience equals strength). These three allegories are variants of the medallions borrowed from the dish called MARS and symbolize AFRICA, EUROPE and ASIA, they alternate with compositions of flowers and fruits, patterns imitating cut leather, arabesques, grotesque masks and cherubs .
Height: 17.3cm.
According to François BRIOT, 19th century

Very good condition,
To illustrate the configuration variants of the allegories mentioned above, note for example that in the NONVI medallion of this mug, strength is represented by a lion while the medallion on the dish of MARS is a dromedary in the allegory of ASIA.
