A Nun with a sick girl
Circa 1880
Oil on canvas
104 × 75 cm
Signed lower left: E.A. Donadini
Donadini, born in Split from a Venetian family, was the leading painter in the city of Dresden in the last quarter of nineteenth century and the early twentieth century. Most of his work was lost due to air raids on Dresden at the end of World War II. The pensive and worried sister and the sick girl make for a sad subject (much like The Sick Child by Edvard Munch), but it is a beautiful and moving painting.
