"19th Century Italian Marquetry Jewelry Box Sorrente"
Jewelery box revealing three storage compartments. Rich cedar, lemon, ebony marquetry with ivory inserts. All sides are inlaid. The lid is decorated with a medallion representing a putto in a chariot surrounded by interlacing, garlands of olive trees and bouquets of flowers. The front and sides decorated with hummingbirds. The back is inlaid with foliage, interlacing, drapery... The underside of the lid in the open position reveals an oval mirror inserted in a marquetry of light wood fillets. From the 19th century, it has retained its label from the Italian manufacturer Americo Gargiulo Figlio based in Sorrento in Italy (1843-1912)
