Small frustoconical pewter DINNER CARRIER with dangling handle with cherub head attachments, central grip lid.
Model by Claude-François BOUVIER active from 1835, unmarked.

The rare smallest size in the series This object was used by shepherds and field workers, day laborers, etc. There were several sizes, the number of which varies according to the production centers, from 4 to 6. The shapes of these dinner holders are variable, they are tapered in Burgundy, apple-shaped in Ile-de-France, flared in Anjou…; the attachments of the handles, depending on the region, feature heads of cherubs, rosettes, fleurons, human masks, etc. Among the BOUVIERs in CLAMECY, there are small variations in the number of loops in the hair of the heads of cherubs.
