We must pay homage to these painters and do justice to these artists, "witnesses of their time", who took it to heart to defend a figurative alternative to conquering abstraction, at the end of the Second World War, in a country characterized by deep existential concerns. In this movement he is part of what will later be called The Painters of Synthesis. They often exhibit together at the same gallery owners, Berri-Lardy or Jacques Ratier, even if they do not constitute a group strictly speaking. They work alone, refusing any form of regimentation, political or artistic. What brings them together is a shimmering palette and the accepted heritage of Cubism and Fauvism. While being resolutely figurative, they do not neglect the contributions of informal art. Among them are, among others, Jean Chevolleau, Camille Hilaire, Jean Marzelle, Marcel Mouly. What we think about it: This figurative movement characteristic of post-war France is not at its price and we have to believe that it will not remain so for very long. Let's not forget that Bernard Buffet was one of the founders of MANIFESTO DE L'HOMME TEMOIN in 1949. Our painting has the advantage of having a real format (60x73cm) with a harmonious color palette. This painting is characteristic of Jean Marzelle's painting. It is perfectly framed which adds to the enhancement of the painting. Reasonable price for an artist who was extremely well known during his lifetime, who won numerous prizes and was defended by major galleries (Bernheim Jeune for example). Did you know ? The Young Painting movement was born after the Second World War, which had just ended with the harshness that we know of. After this disaster, artists could have had a reluctance to represent reality in favor of abstraction. There was, however, a group of young artists who, deprived of everything during the conflict, appealed to the beauty of the living man with his joys and his sufferings. The anti-abstract current is led by the critic Jean Bourret who brings together Bernard Lorjou and the artists of Young Painting at his side. The first exhibition in the form of a manifesto took place at the Galerie du Bac on June 21, 1948. It brought together Yvonne Mottet, who was none other than the wife of Bernard Lorjou, Michel de Gallard, Paul Rebeyrolle, Michel Thomson. They were joined the following year by Bernard Buffet, Robert Charazac, Jean Couty and André Minaux.
