Pretty watercolor representing a three-master docking in a tropical island. A very quick black pen drawing is enhanced with watercolour. It is signed lower left, signature followed by the anchor of the marine painters. It is framed in a limed oak stick and measures only 17.8 x 15.2 cm. Luc Marie Bayle was born in Malo les Bains in 1914, from a long line of sailors. His career as a naval officer was coupled with a career as an artist (he was appointed naval painter in 1944). He He illustrates many books on the navy, produces tapestry cartoons, photographic and cinematographic reports of marine exploration and works to safeguard the naval heritage. He died in 2000 in Houlbec Cocherel
