Object description :

"Adolphe Cossard (1880-1952) "end Of Harvest At Rotoirs, Eure" Corsican Painter, Maurice Dufrène,"
New superb oil/panel by Adolphe Cossard which represents an end of harvest in the Eure, signed lower right + located and numbered on the back "end of harvest at Rotoirs, Eure, N ° 91" Format without frame 35x44cm and 47x57cm frame It is therefore a new post-impressionist composition with a fauve tendency by Adolphe Cossard, this time it is not Corsica but an end of harvest in the Eure, the artist represents millstones and a harvester on a summer day; as usual his touch is very powerful, put in small touches rich in slightly hatched material and finally he uses his usual palette always of a great richness of tones, with here intense greens, blues, ochres and yellows, pink etc. ...A superb painting where we feel a clear influence of the master Van Gogh, it is undeniable. Cossard is therefore today one of the best painters of the Corsican school alongside Péri, Bach, Canicionni, Frassati, Bardon, Corbellini or Madrigali. And an essential painter of the Art Nouveau period and finally a very great poster artist. Gifted for drawing, Adolphe Cossard, in 1897, became a student at the School of Decorative Arts and was taught by Luc-Olivier Merson. He received several awards for excellence for flower arrangements. His classmates are Maurice Dufrène. Cocorico publishes its Poppies on the cover (May 1900). He exhibited for the first time at the Salon d'Automne of 1903, a landscape inspired by Brittany, and repeated the following two years at the same salon. He also presented portraits at the Salon of French Artists in 1904, 1905 and 1911. He was appointed Academy Officer in 1912. In 1907-1908, he lived in Buenos Aires and executed various private commissions for decorations. Along with Dufrêne and Henry de Waroquier, among others, he endeavored to popularize decorative art by publishing in L'Art décoratif pour tous and Art et Décoration. In addition, he delivers illustrations to Le Monde illustré, L'Illustration, Fémina, Je sais tout, Le Matin, Le Petit Parisien, Musica, La Revue théâtrale, La Vie au grand air, La Vie illustrée, La Gerbe, Nos loisirs, The Graphic... He was mobilized during the First World War from August 1914 to March 1919, and was released with the rank of quartermaster; wounded, he received the Croix de guerre in May 1917. While practicing painting, he became artistic director of Pierre Lafitte publications from 1903 to 1910, then head of the artistic department of Galeries Lafayette from 1921. He exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants in 1926 and returned to the Salon of French Artists in 1928. After 1919, he moved to paint in Provence and therefore and especially in Corsica, and most of his paintings were inspired by these regions. We also owe him landscapes inspired by Morocco. Cossard was named Chevalier of the Legion of Honor on July 9, 1932 by the Minister of National Education. His wife, after his death, made an important donation of works and paintings kept by the couple, including one representing Maurice Leloir in his studio, at the Gallé-Juillet museum in Creil. This oil/panel is in perfect condition, moreover delivered in a rather pretty old Montparnasse frame. Guaranteed authentic work
