Object description :

"Louis Appian (1862 - 1896), Great Navy"
Louis Appian, son of Adolphe Appian, had a promising career cut short by his untimely death, just two years before his father passed away. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, he continued his studies at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, working under the guidance of Alexandre. Initially drawn to portraits, nudes, and still lifes, he gradually shifted his focus to landscapes, particularly after a trip to Algeria undertaken to treat his tuberculosis. This journey left a lasting impact on his art.
His talent earned him a scholarship, granting him access to the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1885. From 1886 onward, he exhibited with the Société des Artistes Lyonnais in Lyon. In 1888, he made his debut at the Salon of the Société des Artistes Français in Paris, where he achieved immediate and consistent success throughout his brief career.
