Object description :

"Louis Appian (1862 - 1896), Great Navy"
Born October 18, 1862 in Lyon, died December 11, 1896 in Lyon. Son of Adolphe Appian, Louis Appian died very young, two years before his father. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, then at the Beaux-Arts in Paris and with Cabanel. He exhibited for the first time at the Salon de Lyon in 1886, then at the Salon de Paris in 1888. He first painted portraits, nudes and still lifes, but gradually began to paint landscapes, especially after a stay in Algeria. The colors of his landscapes are more muted than those of his father and are applied with a more delicate touch.
