Lefèvre d'Artois (20th century): "The Basque herdsman", watercolor 47 X 62 cm, mounted in a Parnassian frame 65 X 79 cm. Circa 1930. On a hill overlooking a village with the Rhune in the background, a Basque herdsman is frightened to see his pair of oxen, probably panicked by horseflies. If this artist is unknown to the databases, we had several Basque works from this period, perhaps corresponding to a stay of the painter and which, as here, combine precision of observation and elegance of the touch...
