"Japan: Rabbit Box"
Unusual box depicting a rabbit, carved in wood, probably makura (pillow), Japan, Edo period around 1800. The lid and the bottom are pierced with 4 holes through which the hinge links passed. Those of the bottom are inside the box probably allowing a stability of closing, they are not visible on the photograph. At the front and back of the box, a lug fits into a hole to guarantee the stability of the closure. W 40CM XP 14CM XH 18CM. H useful 6 CM.
