Ceramic plate with stylized decoration in its original frame, by Gilbert Valentin, French ceramist, painter and sculptor born in 1928 in Nancy and died in 2000 in Saint-Laurent-du-Var.
Signed lower right, gallery label "Les Archanges" on the back.
Good condition.
Dimensions plate at sight: 15 X 11 cm.
Frame dimensions: 21 x 17 cm.
It was in 1946 in Dieulefit that Gilbert Valentin discovered ceramics and learned the most primitive techniques of this art. He acquired a great mastery of ceramic techniques, in particular enamels.
He decided to settle in Vallauris in 1950. He founded Les Archanges, where he received many artists including Pablo Picasso, Jacques Prévert, Georges Braque and Jean Cocteau.
Gilbert Valentin will then actively participate in the renewal of forms and decorations of ceramics.
