"Eugène Antoine Prieur Bardin (1860-1905) The Port Of Cassis In 1905"
The Port of Cassis. One of the most coveted subjects by collectors of works from the 19th century Ecole Provençale. Eugène Prieur Bardin famous for his views of Turkey and Marseille presents here his version of the small fishing port in 1905 at the beginning of the 20th century. A view taken from the Quai des Moulins, at the end of the jetty, (today "promenade du Phare") at the time when brigs and rigging alongside the boats called "pointus", and where a peaceful and timeless atmosphere reigned. The work in good condition is offered in a gilded frame from the 19th century which measures 44 cm by 57 cm and 27 cm by 41 cm for the canvas alone. It is signed and dated 1905 lower left and located at "Cassis" lower right. Eugène Antoine Prieur-Bardin was born in Vénissieux (Rhône) in 1860. When his son was born in 1897, we find him in Constantinople where he lives from his painting. Then he moved to Marseille to paint there again until his death in 1905.
