Object description :

"Portrait Of A Woman Three-quarter Back View - Signed Charles Royer - Late 19th - Early 20th Century"
Half-length portrait of a young woman, bare to the waist.
The portrait stands out against a dark background, in shades of brown. The light is concentrated on the shoulder and the face. The expression is pensive, as if the woman had been surprised by the artist.
This subject is characteristic of the productions of the painter, who produced a large number of them. The young woman has a characteristic face from the very beginning of the 20th century.
Signed C. Royer lower right, inconspicuous signature
Royer was born and worked in Langres. He was curator of the museum of this city and exhibited at the Salon of French Artists from 1880 to 1905.
