Object description :

"Jean-baptiste Issanchou (1875-1960) 2 Oils, Limousin Landscapes. Crozant, Limoges, Bichet, Jo"
2 beautiful oils/cartons by Jean-baptiste Issanchou (1875-1960) representing Limousin landscapes. The largest 19x27cm hirs frame is signed lower right and located and dated on the back "The countryside at Beauvalet, route de Saint Junien, June 1939. The second 16x24cm out of frame signed lower right, road in the Limousine countryside. These are therefore two beautiful post-impressionist compositions by this excellent Limousin painter/enameller. Works in the purest line of painters from the Crozant school, as much by the touch as the palette. But logical since Jean-baptiste was Limougeaud, format at the Beaux-Arts, he will first turn to the Arts of fire, he will open a workshop in Limoges where he will produce enamels in the purest Limousin tradition, but he will also have a porcelain workshop where several students will come to create decorations of high fire on porcelain. He will quite naturally frequent the tenors of the time such as Léon Jouhaud, Jules Sarlandie, Alexandre and Henriette Marty.... but also painters from the Limousins and the Crozant school, such as Charles Bichet, with whom he was very close, but also Eugène Alluaud and probably others... It was therefore only natural that Issanchou would deliver very beautiful paintings, mostly Limousin landscapes, but also beautiful compositions from the Basque Country since he would go very regularly, he would also set up his easel in the Dordogne, but would also produce many still lifes and portraits. An accomplished artist, Issanchou exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Limousins and elsewhere, without however abandoning his enamel workshop since he would have many enamel commissions throughout his life. His sister was Mathilde Villoutreix, also a painter, even closer to the school of Crozant and Armand Guillaumin. Finally, there is an interesting book on Jean-baptiste Issanchou, produced by Juliette Soudans-Issanchou (his daughter) in 1963 by Bontemps editions.* Paintings in perfect condition, delivered in their period frames.
