"Marble And Bronze Pendulum, Louis XVI Style, Restoration Period - Early Nineteenth"
Black marble clock decorated with elements of gilded or patinated bronze, made by the Master Watchmaker Gillion installed at 5, rue de Braque in Paris, at the beginning of the 19th century. This beautiful clock is topped with a gallant woman holding a tambourine and accompanied by a basket filled with grapes at her feet. The bronze sculpture with medal patina stands out from the tambourine, the basket and the bunches of grapes, which are worked in gilded bronze. The young woman, dressed in an elegant dress, wears a cross around her neck and wears a large crown on her hair, alternating vine leaves and bunches of grapes. Like Bacchante, we find the attributes of the God of drunkenness around her. The black marble clock has a white enamel dial with black Roman numerals signed "Gillion in Paris". The circumference of this dial is decorated with garlands of pearls and rich ornamentation: scrolls, foliage, pompoms and garlands of flowers. Below, a large frieze with foliage and medallion overlooks a magnificent bronze base with a brown patina depicting scrolls, flowers and fruits. This richly decorated bicentenary clock will please you with its bronze ornamentation and intense colors. ******** Period: Early 19th century Pendulum in very good general condition.
