This woman, holding a young lamb in one arm and pulling up her skirt with the other, leads her cattle through a shallow marsh. The subject of the shepherdess with sheep, addressed in many works, is treated here with a very pronounced play of luminosity. The herd emerges from the darkness of the forest heading towards the plains and mountains visible in the background, to graze there for many months.
