Claudius Barriot (1846-1908), known as Claudius, Lyon school. "Self-portrait", oil on panel, signed and dated 1878 panel: 41 cm x 30 very beautiful wood frame gilded with leaf: 58 cm x 47 Claudius Barriot, painter, born in Lyon on November 9, 1846, died in Lyon on April 4, 1908 (Ec.Fr) Student of the School of Fine Arts in Lyon, then in Paris, of Gérôme, Gleyre and Jules Lefevre. He returned to settle in Lyon, where he made his debut in 1865 with Portrait of the author and a drawing. In Lyon, and in Paris since 1888, he exhibited oil and pastel portraits, outdoor figures, landscapes and seascapes of Italy, lakes of Switzerland and the South of France. The best of his exhibited works are: The King of the Carpet (Lyon 1884), Faneuse (Paris 1888), Aux champs (Paris 1891), Sous le pear tree (Paris 1891), ... He designed the cartoons for the decorations of the Carmel of Calpha (circa 1900) and mosaics from the crypt of Saint-Nizier in Lyon (1904-1905).
