Christian Fjerdingstad was born in 1891 in Denmark. After his apprenticeship with a goldsmith, he opened his workshop but the First World War broke out. He enlisted in the foreign legion and, demobilized in 1915 because of an injury, moved to Fontenay-aux-Roses near the studio of Fernand Léger who persuaded him to exhibit at the Salon d'Automne in 1921. The success is immediate. In 1924 began his collaboration with the Christofle house. He makes silver pieces in his workshop and is responsible for creation at Christofle, for whom he designs his silver metal pieces. He works with boxwood, amber, coral, ivory or rhinoceros horn and highlights these materials with geometric volumes and smooth surfaces combined with an exceptional sense of purity of lines. Fjerdngstad died in 1968.
