Lion
Marble, 30 x 43 x 25
The object under examination is configured as a marble sculpture referable to the seventeenth century, characterized by a strong language, visceral, in search of the effect and attention of the observer: a poetic made to shake the viewer, where the focus of everything becomes the movement and dynamism imprinted in the matter.
In this case, the subject is a lion with wide jaws, always considered the "king of animals", and associated with virtues and positive qualities such as strength, pride, majesty, nobility and courage, but also royalty and wisdom.
The mastery of the sculptor is clearly visible in the movement and power given to the animal, which seems to escape from the marble itself and come to life. Particularly intriguing is, finally, the play between perfectly polished surfaces and those worked to return with great realism every little detail.
