Thommaso Cadés 1772/1850
Circa 18O0
Exceptional "catalogue" by the Roman engraver Thomas Cadés consisting of 37 oak boxes containing more than 1700 impressions of cameos and intaglios, mainly of ancient precious stones.
Each imprint is numbered and lined with paperolle with a gold edge.
Some boxes carry on the back the sticker of an owner (M. Deschamps Military Intendant in Auxerre Yonne), of a monument or the references of the engraver.
One box bears the nomenclature of its contents on the back, others the label of the manufacturer: Cadès Père et Fils.
There is a complete collection of stucco prints taken from stones engraved by the most famous ancient and modern artists at Cadès Père et fils, fine stone engravers and manufacturers of a composition that perfectly imitates said stones. Dwelling in place d'Espagne au coin de lea Rue de la Croix à Rome.
This set is close to the productions of Tommaso Cadès (1772-1850), gem cutter in Rome and editor of the "Grandes Cadès".
An intact collection with some minor traces of use but without breakage or repairs: a print is partly peeled off from the paper background.
Dimensions of a box: L: 33cm x W: 21 cm H: 3 cm, with the ring H: 39.5 cm
The original catalog consisted of wooden boxes or a trunk opening from the front and cabinets/horizontal drawers.
It would seem that certainly to better expose this set one of the owners (Mr. Deschamps?) had these "drawers" glazed and modified the handles.
Details of the contents and more precise photos on request.
