"Bronze “the Source”, By M. Moreau – Mid 19th Century"
Superb bronze proof with red-brown patina by Mathurin Moreau (1822-1912), entitled "La Source", representing a young woman seated on a rocky mound, drinking from a spring with a shell. Lost in her thoughts, the nymph with graceful gestures is naked under a light veil emphasizing her feminine curves. She sketches a smile on her soft face, highlighted by her elegantly raised curly hair. This bronze bears the artist's signature “Math. Moreau" on the terrace and rests on a rotating base. Mathurin Moreau is a renowned French sculptor, renowned for his depictions of feminine grace and delicacy. He attended the Beaux Arts in Paris in 1841 and won the second Prix de Rome in 1842. He obtained a medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1855 in Paris, then at that of 1878.
