"French School, Breton School, Painting Signed But Not Deciphered, Illegible. Thatched Cottage"
Very beautiful oil on strong double-sided cardboard representing a Breton cottage by the sea, signed lower left + study of a river in town on the back. Format without frame 38x46cm It is therefore a beautiful post-impressionist composition with an expressionist tendency, very probably a French school at the beginning of the 20th century, perhaps even a Breton school, because the painter represents a cottage and characters by the sea. The touch is extremely vigorous, with large flat areas rich in matter, in a fairly subtle palette. The work is therefore well and truly signed at the bottom left but unfortunately I have not been able to decipher it; it is certainly an excellent painter fatally listed given the quality of this painting, advice to amateurs .... I am interested in any information. This way of painting is reminiscent of that of a Bertram or a Mettenhoven. Otherwise this oil is in very good condition on the front side, very slight lacks at the corners but invisible with the frame; therefore delivered in an old upright Montparnasse style frame.
