This Jerome is almost naked, he has almost got rid of his red coat and in this, he symbolizes the American people who had almost freed themselves from England. Saint Jerome is the one who translated the Bible from Hebrew into Latin in order to make it accessible to a greater number. He is the one who seeks to enlighten the people.
