Object description :

"Charles Mozin (1806-1862), Low Tide At Trouville, Oil On Canvas"
Charles Mozin (1809-1862) Low tide at Trouville Oil on canvas signed lower right and dated 1825 Dimension: 28 x 46 cm Dimension with period frame: 38 x 58.5 cm Early work of the artist, it was only 19 years old when he made this painting but already mastered painting very well. The sky and the light effects are of great finesse, the space and the colors are mastered. The sketched characters will be made with more consistency and realism over the course of his career. The work was produced in 1825, the date corresponding to the year the artist discovered Trouville. He will fall in love with this small fishing village and the surrounding landscapes. We are facing one of the first paintings he painted of Trouville. He hastens to immortalize the magnificent spectacle and subsequently exhibits his works in Parisian salons. This is how he introduced Trouville to other artists. They in turn come to visit this little corner of paradise and subsequently make it famous. Bibliography: Charles Mozin (1809-1862) is a painter, draftsman and lithographer who was born into a large family of Parisian musicians. He decides not to follow the musical path and enters the studio of Xavier Leprince (1799-1826) and specializes in landscapes and seascapes. He exhibited at the Salon from 1824 to 1861. His first painting was bought by the Duchess of Berry, he was barely 21 years old. Above all a marine painter, Mozin had chosen Trouville for his home for a large part of the year, where far from the world and sheltered from distractions, he believed he lived devoting himself only to study, not suspecting when he built his house (a masterpiece of taste and architecture), that fashion would one day invade this lost country of 1500 inhabitants. In a letter to a friend, the artist said “(Trouville) its appearance has changed a lot today, and if the tourist now finds there a certain comfort to which I contributed in spite of myself, he has lost the picturesque part. I thought I would enjoy it as a miser, supposing myself to stay away from the world in this thatched nest”. We can find the works of the artists in the museums of: Trouville (Villa Montebello), Museum of Caen, Carnavalet, St Malo, Amiens, Honfleur (Eugène Boudin museum)…
