"Flemish Or German School, The Sacrifice Of Isaac, Late XVI Th Century, Abraham And Isaac"
Flemish or German School, late 16th century or very early 17th century. Our painting represents the biblical scene of the sacrifice of Isaac by his father Abraham. The latter preparing to sacrifice his son for God, an angel comes to stop his gesture and points to a ram held by the horns in a bush which will serve as a substitute offering. This oil on canvas is in a very good state of conservation, it has been consolidated by an old relining. Given the age of the work, tiny little lack of material without gravity are to be noted. Repaints are present around the edge of the painting, no doubt with the aim of taking up jumps in material due to contact with the edges of an old frame.
