Edmond Van Coppenolle was born in Ghent, Belgium, in 1846. In 1872, he moved to France, to Moret-sur-Loing, near Montigny, to work in the Schopin ceramic factory. He took residence in a large studio on Grand-Rue. As a decorator of ceramics, he produced numerous sketches, studies (often very accurate), and drawings in India ink and pencil.
His favorite subjects were still lifes, genre scenes, and landscapes that reflected his admiration for the Flemish masters of the 17th century and his awareness of the French trend towards a more natural representation of flowers.
The artist passed away in Château-Landon, France, in 1914.
