"Lectern In Carved And Gilded Wood"
Original standing lectern in carved and gilded wood decorated with a scallop shell, circa 1800 period. Probably from northern Italy, made of larch wood, carved, then gilded with pale gold. Wear to the gilding, scattered and visible chips on the whole of the object which nevertheless remains solid and stable. The wide, deeply sculpted shell serves as a backsplash while the support strip materializes like an entablature with lateral windings. The whole rests on a base with half-circle sides fitted with four ribbed feet. Footprint of the base: approximately 30 X 22 cm. A lyre-shaped leg supports the shell at the back, this assembly made by interlocking cannot bend. Note: a very decorative model, its wear and tear attest to its authenticity.
